Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, announces a plan to combat gender-based and sexual violence in three priority sectors: live performance, visual arts and books.

The fight against gender-based and sexual violence is at the heart of the Ministry of Culture’s commitments.

Thus, since 2017, a series of measures have been put in place in the public services and institutions under the ministry: awareness campaigns, training, prevention measures, establishment of a listening cell to facilitate reporting and processing.

In addition, an innovative approach has been adopted in the conduct of cultural policies: condition public aid to the establishment by the recipient company of measures for the prevention and treatment of situations of sexual and sexist violence. The cinema was the first sector to introduce this type of measure, recently joined by music, since access to the aid paid by the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée and the Centre national de la musique is now conditioned on them.

For 2021, the Ministry of Culture will roll out a plan to combat gender and sexual violence in three new sectors: live entertainment, visual arts and books.

The plan also includes a plan to strengthen actions to combat gender and sexual violence in arts and cultural higher education. It provides for additional measures concerning the training of pupils, but also the operational support of the school management teams to prevent and take charge of this violence.

The goal of the Ministry of Culture is to ensure that the fight against gender-based and sexual violence permeates all cultural policies.
