Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, on a proposal from the selection committee and advice from the school’s Board of Directors, has decided to appoint Mathieu Ferey as director of the Conservatoire national supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMDL). Mathieu Ferey will take up his duties on February 4, 2019.
The selection committee constituted for the recruitment was composed of representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Catherine Tsékénis, President of the CNSMDL, Marc-Olivier Dupin, composer and musician, former director of the CNSMDP, and Daniel Agesilas, former dancer at the Paris Opera and former director of studies at the CNSMDP.
Pianist and musicologist, currently music inspector in the cultural affairs department of the City of Paris, Mathieu Ferey has 20 years of experience in the management of conservatories where he has conducted major educational projects and has successfully completed real estate programs. His vision for the CNSMDL, marked by the need for excellence and innovation, values the interactions between research and artistic activity, particularly in the field of dance, and establishes a fruitful dialogue between disciplines and between heritage repertoire and creation. Mathieu Ferey is committed to the social diversity of students, to anchoring arts and cultural education at the heart of student learning and mobility. It also wishes to foster new forms of interdisciplinary expressions rooted in contemporary creation.
With this global and committed project, Mathieu Ferey will enable the CNSMDL to develop collaborations with all cultural partners, and will continue its territorial, national and international reach.
