Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, and Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, announce the appointment of Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel as directors of the Théâtre du Rond-Point. They succeed Jean-Michel Ribes, in office since 2001.
Artists, directors, producers, co-directors of theatre, the prolific duo Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel have collaborated for over 30 years. Since 2009, they have been in charge of the Monfort Theatre, which under their leadership has become a leading institution. Since 2016, they have also been running the «Paris l'Été» festival.
Founded in 1981, the Théâtre du Rond-Point’s mission is to showcase the theatre of its time by presenting works by living artists. Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel will amplify this guideline by opening the venue to other artistic disciplines.
Their project aims to promote multidisciplinary contemporary programming by emphasizing the international dimension of theatre and giving pride of place to young creation.
The duo also wants to make the Rond-Point a space of life and conviviality.
Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel’s project convinced me with its sensitive and bold approach, its ambition to reach out to all audiences and open up to new artistic forms. We have full confidence in their ability to write the new pages of the Rond-Point while being part of its history. » Anne Hidalgo
' Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel develop a theatre rooted in the reality of our lives, a lively and nourished artistic creation, with a significant openness to the world. They will continue to accompany artists with passion and to welcome audiences with generosity. I welcome this joint choice with the City of Paris for this great place that is the Théâtre du Rond-point. » Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture
Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin and Anne Hidalgo would also like to express their sincere thanks to Jean-Michel Ribes for the immense quality of his work at the head of the Rond-Point theatre.
