Following the Treaty of Aachen signed by the President of the French Republic and the German Chancellor on 22 January 2019, Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, met with his counterpart Ms Monika Grütters this morning in Berlin.

Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the final adoption of the European Parliament’s proposal for a directive on copyright in the digital single market at the end of March. Europe is proud of its creators and must protect them for the benefit of all its citizens.

They also discussed the various work that will have to be done in order to achieve the objectives set by the Treaty of Aachen in cultural matters, in particular the issue of the Franco-German digital platform.

During his visit to Berlin, the Minister also met with Peter Boudgoust, President of Arte GEIE and Director of the Südwestrundfunk (SWR).

He then presented the insignia of Commander of Arts and Letters to Mr.Dieter Kosslick, director of the Berlin International Film Festival, in the presence of many personalities from the world of Franco-German culture and media.
