Françoise Nyssen, Minister of Culture, has chosen to entrust to Sylvie Marcé the Commissariat général des États généraux du livre en français dans le monde.

The organization of these Estates General is one of the measures in the plan for the French language and plurilingualism presented by the President of the Republic to the Académie française on the occasion of the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20.

A first step in the prefiguration of these Estates General took place during the festival Étonnants Voyageurs in May, and drew the main objectives:

- Working to provide francophones on all continents with broad access to the diversity of French-language literary and intellectual creation

- Contribute to the creation of an open-ended and dynamic French-language editorial space based on cooperation and reciprocity

- Promote the mobility and networking of all book professionals who share French in order to stimulate editorial exchanges, collaboration and sharing of best practices

- Integrate new digital perspectives

These Estates General will take place by the end of 2019 and will give rise to various initiatives and events that will be specified in the coming weeks with the main actors, public and private, the book community in France and the various partner organizations or institutions in the francophone world.

The French Institute has been designated as the operator of these États généraux du livre en français around the world and will provide support through the mobilization of the French cultural network abroad and the expertise of its French language department, Livre et Savoirs, whose director, Judith Roze, will be in charge of the operation.

Sylvie Marcé has been responsible for the book industry for 20 years.

After managing the Savoir Livre association for four years, she directed for 15 years Éditions Belin, then the Humensis group (Belin, Puf, Le Pommier, Éditions de l'Observatoire, Pour la Science, Cerveau & Psycho) born from the merger of Éditions Belin and Puf in 2016 (Presses universitaires de France).

A member of the board of the Syndicat National de l'Édition (SNE) from 2010 to June 2018, Sylvie Marcé served as vice-president from 2010 to 2015, and chaired the group of educational publishers from 2002 to 2018.
