Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, went with Stéphane Bern to Château-Thierry on Monday, March 11 for the launch of the second edition of the Heritage Lotto. It is part of the mission entrusted in September 2017 by the President of the Republic to Stéphane Bern, in order to identify with the support of the departments of the Ministry of Culture and the Heritage Foundation, heritage assets at risk and propose innovative sources of funding to safeguard them.

The Minister of Culture and Stéphane Bern today visited the Hôtel-Dieu de Château-Thierry, selected in 2018 as one of the 18 priority sites of the first edition of the Loto du patrimoine for the Hauts-Thierry region.de France, which will be transformed into a museum of hospitable history.

Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, thanked the French and underlined their commitment to heritage conservation: “The Lottery has not only brought new resources to the protection of our heritage, it has enabled our fellow citizens to participate. Because the French no longer simply want to be spectators of culture, they also want to be actors of this culture that is everywhere in our territories».

After the great success of the 2018 edition, Franck Riester and Stéphane Bern announced the sustainability of the system. 18 emblematic sites were selected for the 2019 edition, including 5 in Overseas:

- Viaduct des Fades (Puy de Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes)

- Château de Maulnes (Yonne, Burgundy-Franche-Comté)

- Etel cooler (Morbihan, Brittany)

- Moulins de la Fontaine (Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire)

- Fesch Library in Ajaccio (South Corsica, Corsica)

- Moulin de Bar-sur-Seine (Aube, Grand Est)

- Belfry of Béthune (Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France)

- Château de By, house of Rosa Bonheur (Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France)

- Sainte-Marie de Longues-sur-mer Abbey (Calvados, Normandy)

- Gallo-Roman amphitheatre in Saintes (Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine)

- Fort de Brescou in Agde (Hérault, Occitanie)

- Ruins of the Château de l'Etenuère (Vendée, Pays de la Loire)

- Notre-Dame de Sénanque Abbey (Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'azur)

- Church of Morne-à-l'Eau (Guadeloupe)

- Barcarel Relay in Saint-Laurent, Guyana

- Facades of the houses of the city of Saint-Pierre (Martinique)

- Tamil temples of the barracks in Saint-Pierre and the Gol in Saint-Louis (Reunion Island)

- Île aux Marins Lighthouse (Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon)

These priority sites will receive financial support through the «Heritage Mission» games carried by the French Games: a Super Lotto draw will take place on 14 July 2019, and scratch tickets will be on sale at the European Heritage Days on 21 and 22 September 2019. 100 new sites will be selected during the spring (one per department and community of Overseas) and will benefit from the «Heritage Mission» games in 2019.
