On the occasion of the Franco-German Council of Ministers held at the Presidency of the French Republic on 22 January 2023, the anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, Ms Rima Abdul Malak, French Minister of Culture, and Claudia Roth, German Federal Delegate for Culture and Media, have decided to work together over the coming years to implement new joint projects.

1 – cooperation for the establishment of a Culture Pass

France and Germany wished to reaffirm their common commitment to access to culture for all, and especially for youth. At a meeting in Berlin on 24 November, they signed a declaration of intent for the implementation of cultural cooperation around the Pass culture implemented in France and in several European countries. It provides for the signing of an implementation agreement to support Germany’s efforts to build an online platform to promote access to culture for the young generation in its territory, based on the French model. The project will be launched in Germany between April and June 2023.

2 - The creation of a Franco-German fund for research on sources

France and Germany welcome the signing today of an agreement on the establishment of a Franco-German fund to promote research on the provenance of cultural goods produced in sub-Saharan Africa. This agreement aims to strengthen, through a joint initiative, the efforts already undertaken by the two countries to encourage the search for sources, to build a common scientific approach and to share the results.
