Françoise Nyssen, Minister of Culture, announces the winners of the first annual award Dare the museum.

This award distinguishes museums engaged in a proactive and innovative policy towards people in situations of exclusion or social and economic vulnerability. Its creation is inscribed in the conclusions of the mission 21st Century Museums with the network of museums in France.

For its first edition, the Dare the museum aroused real interest; the applications received represented the great diversity of museums in France and the dynamism of the regions in mediation policies. The documents presented also showed that the recognition of the cultural rights of all becomes a central objective of scientific and cultural projects and the programming of museums throughout the territory.

The jury, which was open to national solidarity associations last November, under the chairmanship of the Director General of Heritage, awarded the following prize:

-                      First prizes ex aequo: Louvre-Lens and Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille

The plurality and quality of the projects carried out over the long term by the Louvre-Lens and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille are part of a shared museum, anchored in the reality of its territory and in resonance with its social needs. These establishments have a remarkable social and educational vocation.

-                      Second prize: Margeride ecomuseum

The Margeride Eco-Museum is making significant efforts, especially to help the elderly who are isolated, to respond to the difficult social realities of a territory that is among the “priority rural development territories”.

-                      Special mentions: musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac and Paris Musées

The musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, and Paris Musées, which includes the fourteen museums of the City of Paris, have been able to make the opening of the social field to the public and the construction of multiple and lasting partnerships with the relays of these same audiences a central dimension of their policy. Their approach presents the characteristics of an experience and a know-how that can make school in the wide network of museums of France and national.

With this list, the prize Dare the museum helps to accompany and enhance the evolution of the social role of museums, thus meeting the expectations of our fellow citizens and all audiences.
