Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, announces the labelling of eight new Houses of the Illustrious after the 8e labelling campaign held last December.

Created in 2011, the label Houses of the Illustrious is a system for valuing heritage and cultural action throughout the territory. It is attributed to the houses that preserve and transmit the memory of the men and women who lived in them and have distinguished themselves in the political, social and cultural history of France. These houses establish a link between local and national history, intimacy and great narrative, transmission and creation.

They open their doors to visitors more than forty days a year, present a cultural program adapted to all audiences, and are accessible especially to people with disabilities. In 2017, the attendance of the entire Houses of the Illustrious is estimated at over 3.5 million admissions.

The label thus participates in the project of artistic and cultural education and cultural democratization through the valorization of a local heritage in the heart of metropolitan and ultra-marine territories, and also beyond French administrative borders. It is also part of the networks of labels and appellations managed by the Ministry of Culture: Museums of France, Cities and Countries of Art and History, Remarkable Gardens, European Heritage and Remarkable Contemporary Architecture.

The new labeled houses are :

- Yvonne Jean-Haffen Museum-House, Dinan, Brittany;

- Château d'Henri Louis Duhamel de Monceau, Dadonville, Centre-Val de Loire;

- Home of Pierre de Ronsard, in Vendôme, in Centre-Val de Loire;

- Maison Paul et Camille Claudel, in Château-Thierry, Hauts-de-France;

- Aimé Césaire’s office in Fort-de-France, Martinique;

- Villa Gustave Thuret, Antibes-Juan-Les-Pin, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur;

- Camargo - Jerome Hill Foundation, in Cassis, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur;

With these new labels, the network is expanding to include 235 Houses of the Illustrious labeled.
