Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, is very pleased to announce the creation of a thirteenth label of artistic creation, dedicated to puppetry.
Highly anticipated by the entire profession, the creation of this label is the culmination of the recognition of the discipline as a full expression of contemporary creation, at the crossroads of the visual arts and the performing arts.
This decision is in line with the reinforcement in recent years by the Ministry of Culture of its support to the puppetry sector, with the establishment of the national higher professional diploma of actor specialty actor-puppeteer issued by ESNAM and a plan of more than €1 million in additional credits since 2016.
The main tasks of the CNMa will be described in the specifications of the label: on the one hand, support for puppet creation - thanks in particular to the presence of a manufacturing workshop - and on the other hand, the regular distribution of puppet shows, with particular attention to large formats. These two missions will go hand in hand with an ambitious programme of cultural action and the contribution to the professional structuring of the sector.
The seven already recognized «national puppet centres in preparation» will be able to apply for certification as early as 2022 and a dozen structures throughout the country could be certified in the medium term.
