Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, announces the reappointment of Claire Barbillon as Director of the École du Louvre.

A university professor, Claire Barbillon specializes in art history from the 19the His professional career is divided between museums and higher education. She worked for fourteen years at the Musée d'Orsay, successively in charge of the educational sector and then publications. She has taught at the universities of Bordeaux, Nanterre and Poitiers.   She joined the École du Louvre for the first time as Director of Studies from 2004 to 2011 and was appointed Director in December 2017.

During her first term at the head of the institution, Claire Barbillon had at heart to modernize the École du Louvre, refine its teaching practices, increase the development of research, improve student life and implement a sustainable fundraising policy.

Under his leadership, the school has initiated many projects to promote the success of students and their professional integration: creation of a new entrance competition, integration of the Parcoursup system, development of tutoring and internships in professional environment, establishment of an endowment fund. Since the beginning of the health crisis, the Ecole du Louvre has been able to adapt its teaching very quickly to ensure pedagogical continuity, especially during lockdowns. The school has also embarked on an ambitious programme of work to improve the reception and study conditions of its audiences.

The Minister welcomes the reappointment of Claire Barbillon as director of the École du Louvre and highlights the specificities of this institution where, Since 1882, the work of art and the object have been at the centre of a pedagogy provided by a large proportion of heritage professionals. Today, the École du Louvre offers courses in art history, archaeology, epigraphy, history of civilizations, anthropology and museology to more than 1,600 students, as well as to thousands of listeners in the regions and in Paris.

This second three-year mandate will allow Claire Barbillon to carry out the major projects open and to consider new avenues of development for the École du Louvre, enhancing its atypical position in the French higher education landscape and strengthening its international reach.
