Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, in full agreement with Jacqueline Belhomme, Mayor of Malakoff, Philippe Laurent, President of the Public Territorial Vallée Sud Grand Paris, Patrick Devedjian, President of the Departmental Council of Hauts de Seine, and Michel Pénager, President of Theatre 71, approves the appointment of Armelle Vernier as Director of Theatre 71, on the unanimous proposal of the jury meeting on June 5, 2019.
Under the direction of Armelle Vernier, Theatre 71 will offer programming open to all audiences, multidisciplinary in the field of live performance and cinema, with particular emphasis on new theatrical writings, puppetry and object theatre, the arts of movement and a musical line tinged with jazz, extended to contemporary and world music.
The Fabrique des arts will assert itself as a place of creation and professional accompaniment in the heart of the territory. Three companies will be in residence for three years and closely associated with the project of the national scene: the company Babel, the Company of Men and the company Angels at the Ceiling.
Armelle Vernier intends to place the relations of Theatre 71 with the neighbouring cultural structures and the populations of her territory under the sign of conviviality and sharing.
Armelle Vernier ran the Centre culturel Jean-Houdremont in La Courneuve between 2012 and 2018. She was previously production director at Scènes de cirque, administrator of the Baro d'evel companies and GdRA, then in charge of circus, street arts and puppetry at the Paris cultural affairs department. She will take up her duties on 1 September 2019.
