Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, in agreement with Philippe Cardin, Mayor of Meylan, Christophe Ferrari, President of Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, Jean-Pierre Barbier, President of the Departmental Council of Isère, Laurent Wauquiez, President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council and Michel Grangeat, President of France, approves the appointment of Jérôme Villeneuve as Director of France, on the proposal of the jury meeting on September 21, 2021.

Jérôme Villeneuve is a research engineer at the Université Grenoble Alpes, the CNRS and the Grenoble Images Parole Signal Automatique laboratory. He is also President and Artistic Director of the Association ressource pour la création artistique numérique (Arcan).

Three thematic main lines of strength structure his project for France: Arts et sciences; Digital arts; Nature and society.

Under his direction, the national scene of Meylan/Grenoble-Alpes Métropole will accentuate its function of interface between artistic and scientific disciplines. She will approach the field of digital arts in their relationship to science, both as a field of experimentation of new artistic writings, which will be visible in her multidisciplinary programming, and as a field of analysis of the societal issues it raises. The question of the link between nature and society will be the gateway for its choices of programming, support for artists and cultural action projects, inspiring new models of production, dissemination and relations with populations.

The biennial Experimenta, organized with the Atelier Arts Sciences, joint workshop in France and the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) be maintained, in support of strengthened partnerships with other artistic and cultural structures in the territory. It will give more space to young creation and the accompaniment of artists.

Jérôme Villeneuve intends to develop his project by multiplying the cooperation with the actors concerned by the same problems at the level of the city of Meylan, Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, the department of Isère, the Auvergne region-Rhône-alp es and, more broadly, with national and European networks.

Jérôme Villeneuve succeeds Antoine Conjard, who led France between 2001 and 2021, and whose Minister of Culture welcomes the tireless commitment to build a unique project that embodies the reconciliation between arts and sciences.
