Rima Abdul Malak, Minister of Culture, in agreement with David Samzun, Mayor of Saint-Nazaire, Christelle Morançais President of the Pays de la Loire region, Michel Ménard, President of the Departmental Council of the Loire-Atlantique, approves the appointment of Camel Zekri to the direction of Athénor, CNCM of Saint-Nazaire, in accordance with the proposal of the jury meeting on October 12, 2022.

Camel Zekri is a guitarist, composer, project director, festival founder, producer and producer for record labels. His compositions and artistic projects touch on contemporary, improvised, jazz and transcultural music. Camel Zekri has written for contemporary musical theatre, dance and circus. He has also created and developed numerous cultural action projects for all types of audiences and territories, as artistic director of the Orne-based company Les Arts Improvisés.

Camel Zekri’s artistic approach questions the relationship between writing and oral tradition. He proposes for Athénor a project at the intersection of different musical genres and artistic disciplines. Athénor Nomadic scene, offers him a new territory of experimentation. To establish partnerships with socio-cultural structures, to offer nomadic concerts and to reach the most distant audiences of Culture.

Camel Zekri will succeed Brigitte Lallier-Maisonneuve, founder of Athénor in 1985, whose Minister wishes to commend the quality of the work and the involvement in the management of this establishment. During her 37 years at the helm, Brigitte Lallier-Maisonneuve has developed and deployed a unique project that has contributed to the emergence of original works and the influence of Athénor, a national center for musical creation in 2018.
