Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, has approved the appointment of Alain Perroux to the General Management of the Opera National du Rhin (joint union bringing together the cities of Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar), in full agreement with the Mayor of Strasbourg, the Mayor of Mulhouse, the Mayor of Colmar and the President of the Grand-Est Region.

Alain Perroux proposes a project implementing ambitious and inclusive programming, taking into account the specific cross-border nature of OnR and its openness to Europe. In this capacity, it will have the mission of developing the influence of the OnR on national and international levels, but also on the territory of the Grand-Est region, with a permanent concern for the development and renewal of audiences, notably through the establishment of itinerant operas and a proactive arts and cultural education programme. He also wants to promote the diversity of lyrical formats, building on the artistic forces present in the territory, but also by accompanying emerging artists (especially through the Opera studio of OnR).

He will carry out his project in conjunction with the Ballet du Rhin - Centre chorégraphique national, directed by Bruno Bouché, an integral part of OnR.

Alain Perroux holds a Master’s degree in Musicology and German Literature from the University of Geneva and a diploma in choral direction from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Genève, and is director of the artistic administration and playwright of the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festivalin Provence since 2009. He has also been a distributor advisor at the Opéra de Dijon and a playwright at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

He has published several books on opera and musical comedy, while having participated in several collective works.

He will take up his duties at the beginning of 2020.
