The 6th edition of the National Architecture Days will take place on 15, 16 and 17 October 2021. Launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Culture, these days aim to raise public awareness of the importance of architecture and provide keys to understanding a discipline essential to make the world habitable.
The 2021 edition will examine the theme of “living together”, particularly topical at a time when the health crisis is upsetting all our benchmarks, with the acceleration of the development of telework and the need to adapt our major facilities (hospitals, theatres, etc.).
For three days, architecture will be seen in all its dimensions, through urban walks, debates, film screenings, exhibitions, site visits, open doors, workshops for young audiences… These days will also be an opportunity to discover emblematic achievements of today’s architecture, emphasizing the concept of sustainable construction: will be on the program the visit of eco-sustainable and intermodal stations in the Paris region.
These days will be supported by many people. The multidisciplinary architecture agency AREP will be the event’s designer and partner. As in previous years, the editions À Vivre will open to the public exceptional contemporary homes. On October 14, 2021, on the eve of the launch of the National Architecture Days, the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine will open the exhibition of the winners of the Albums des Jeunes Architectes et Paysagistes.
Look up, look up!
Joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports, the third edition of the "Raise your eyes!" will address the young audience, with the objective of making young people aware of their living environment. Organized on Friday, October 15, this day will be an opportunity for students, from kindergarten to grade 12, to go out of classes to learn to read architecture, decipher the landscapes of the city and the countryside.
The networking architecture
The National Architecture Days, coordinated in the regions by the regional cultural affairs directorates, allow to discover the public and private networks that contribute to the influence of architecture: the Cities and Countries of Art and History, the national higher schools of architecture, the Councils of Architecture, Urban Planning and the Environment (CAUE), the houses of architecture, the architects councils of the State. The National Council of the Order of Architects also coordinates the opening of many architectural agencies during the three days.
These national days of architecture will be part of a month dedicated to architecture and heritage, in France and internationally, which will begin with the European Heritage Days on 18 and 19 September. This period will also be marked by World Architecture Day on 5 October.
These days will take place in compliance with the health rules then in force.
