The obelisk of Luxor, carved 3,300 years ago during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II, is the oldest historical monument in Paris. A symbol of the splendour of Egyptian history that has fascinated the French since the 19th century, installed in Place de la Concorde in 1836, it was donated to France by the viceroy of Egypt in 1830.

In order to remedy the outrages of time and pollution, cleaning and restoration work is carried out in the first half of 2022.
