40 YEARS: “RE-MAKE MUSIC!”
Forty years ago, on June 21, 1982, the first edition of the Fête de la musique was held. This event aimed to encourage the development of amateur music practice. Under the leadership of Jack Lang, the Ministry of Culture gave a slogan for this festive night: "Make music!"
Throughout France, musicians and singers gathered from 8:30 pm, for an evening whose success was not guaranteed. And yet there were millions of them walking down the street to play or listen. The amateurs joined the professionals, the curious to the music lovers, the rock bands to the symphony orchestras. Five thousand bands and harmonies were recorded throughout the hexagon.
Four decades later, and still with the same desire to see the development of artistic practices throughout France, the Ministry of Culture decided to celebrate this anniversary by paying tribute to the first edition: "Re-make music!" will be the slogan of the 2022 Music Festival.
