Colloquium on Wednesday 21, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 June 2017

The colloquium Museum Life – Audience Time, organized by the Ministry of Culture will take place from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 June 2017 in Paris and Ile-de-France. The design of the symposium, alternating plenary sessions and workshops-actions, should allow a collective and collaborative reflection on the museum experience and mediation practices, in constant evolution.

This colloquium, which puts the public at the centre of reflection, has identified 4 major themes: Other times? Other places? / Keeping body in mind? / Engaging in debate? / The unruly museum? that will be addressed through 17 workshops-actions co-designed by professionals close to 50 museums. It will take place in 25 places in the Ile de France.

These workshops-actions are the result of an unprecedented networking of participating cultural institutions. For one year, each museum and monument that contributed to the project contributed its point of view, experiences and specific issues for the construction of the workshops' programmes.

Deux plenary sessions will take place: the opening session will present the framework for reflection on Wednesday, June 21 afternoon at the Centre Pompidou, the closing session will present the first results of the workshops-actions on Friday, June 23 afternoon, at the Musée d'Orsay. A second meeting is already planned at a symposium on 2 and 3 February 2018 at the Louvre Museum, to continue reflection and exchange on these themes.

Through its programme and these two distinct moments, the symposium Museum Life – Audience Time proposes to give a voice to mediation professionals, researchers and audiences to exchange on their visions of the museum in order to share best practices and build new ones.

This symposium is a continuation of the reflections of the mission Museums of the XXIe century launched in May 2016 and whose findings were issued in March 2017.
