An outstanding ambassador of the French repertoire, Georges Prêtre has conducted the most illustrious orchestras, from Vienna to Milan, from New York to Chicago. Paris was not left out: he gave a last memorable concert there in 2013. Adored by music lovers all over the world, the musicians appreciated his art of letting play, a mark of the greatest.

A former pupil of the Paris Conservatory, he was Maria Callas' favorite Maestro and accompanied his debut at the Paris Opera. Admired by Francis Poulenc, he created one of his masterpieces, «La voix humaine», in the pit of the Opéra Comique.

Audrey Azoulay, Minister of Culture and Communication, sends her sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.
