Audrey Azoulay, Minister of Culture and Communication, has approved the appointment of Didier Aschour as director of the Groupe de musique électroacoustique d'Albi (GMEA), Centre National de Création Musicale (CNCM).

Unanimously chosen by a jury associating the city of Albi, the Department of Tarn, the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées Region and the State, he will succeed Thierry Besche from 5 September 2016.

At the head of GMEA, Didier Aschour will develop an open conception of the elaboration of artistic projects of musical creation, research and mediation. It will pursue an active policy of partnership, in particular with stakeholders in the region, multiplying co-productions and actions in favor of cultural arts education and thus developing the regional audience and the national and international influence of the Electroacoustic Music Group of Albi.

Internationally renowned guitarist, improviser and composer, Didier Aschour is currently artistic director of the Dedalus ensemble and co-director of the «Sonorités» festival in Montpellier.

The Minister would like to salute Thomas Besche, founder of GMEA, for his work in promoting the dynamism and recognition of contemporary music.
