Pierre Bernard was both a committed man and a huge graphic designer; he is a cultural activist who left us.

Member of the International Graphic Arts Alliance, professor of graphic design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he was artistic co-director of the Chaumont International Poster and Graphic Design Festival until 2010, Pierre Bernard is a major figure in graphic design who has worked all his life for the transmission of his art.

In 1970, with François Miehe and Gérard Paris-Clavel, he founded the Grapus collective, before being joined by Alex Jordan and Jean-Paul Bachollet. For almost twenty years, the group enjoyed international success and won the Grand Prix national des Arts Graphiques in France. Pierre Bernard then created the Atelier de Création Graphique with Dirk Behage and Fokke Draaijer. In 2006, he received the Erasmus prize for his entire career in the field of «public domain graphics».

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Pierre Bernard.
