Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, in full agreement with Gérard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon and Jean-Jack Queyranne, President of the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, has appointed Joris Mathieu as director of the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération (TNG), Lyon National Drama Centre.

Born in 1977, Joris Mathieu defends narrative forms carried by a strong sensory and plastic universe, developing a theatre at the crossroads of literature, new technologies and humanities. Seizing the way in which young people have a relationship with culture and the media, he seeks innovative languages at the intersection of the history of theatrical machinery and the origins of cinema, in order to open the doors of theatre to all audiences. He took over as director of the Théâtre des Ateliers in Lyon last January.

Entitled «Imagining tomorrow», his project, pooling the resources of the TNG and the Théâtre des Ateliers, is inhabited by strong artistic presences: it is a trait of intergenerational and cultural union. At the heart of the launch of the Belle Saison, he encourages us to break down barriers, innovate and achieve great poetic ambition for young people.

He will invite two associate artists for his first term, Phia Ménard and Chiara Guidi, and will set up innovative mechanisms to support the emergence. Several highlights, in partnership with other institutions, are imagined in order to create pathways for youth.

He will succeed Nino D'Introna on 1 January 2015, who will continue his artistic journey in company.
