The Ministry of Culture and Communication is organising a Forum on 4 and 5 April at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris entitled «Future of Culture, Future of Europe».

On this occasion there will be a day and a half of debates on the future of cultural policies in Europe, as well as a meeting of European Ministers of Culture on the initiative of the Minister of Culture and Communication.

Following the discussions on the cultural exception which have marked the European debate, this meeting should make it possible to reaffirm the importance of culture and the primordial place which must be given to it at European level, in particular with regard to the new digital challenges.

This Forum will be a moment of European mobilization for culture and will give a voice to all those who make and support culture in Europe. It will bring together European creators and intellectuals, public decision-makers and cultural professionals who will interact with European ministers, MEPs and Commissioners. While all too often the actors of culture have had to fight to make Brussels recognize the importance of the stakes they bear, it is a question of making 2014, election year, the starting point for a shared dynamic around culture as a future challenge for Europe.

The «Chaillot Forum - Future of Culture, Future of Europe» will address the main issues of cultural policy in the digital age: copyright, protection of cultural diversity, financing of creation, regulations, cultural democratization, role of the cultural sector in the development and social cohesion of Europe.

In the light of the discussions at the Forum, it will be necessary to outline guidelines for the next mandates of the Commission and the European Parliament in order to enable the implementation of a genuine European strategy for culture in the digital age.
