Following the jury that brought together all the public partners and after an exchange with the city of Nanterre and the Conseil général des Hauts-de-Seine, Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, appointed Philippe Quesne director of the Théâtre des Amandiers, Nanterre National Drama Centre.
Philippe Quesne was born in 1970. His training in plastic arts and experience as a set designer led him, with his company Vivarium Studio created in 2003, to develop multidisciplinary pieces from a working group bringing together actors, visual artists and musicians. His stage writing develops a universe mixing the natural with the fantastic from a political observation of the real.
His project for the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre focuses on new stage writing and contemporary creation, on openness to cinema and visual arts, with a strong focus on audience renewal.
Artists are associated with the project, including Gisèle Vienne, Vincent Macaigne and Joël Pommerat who will bring their worlds and creations for the first seasons. Many representatives of young directors and European creation will also be invited.
In co-direction with Nathalie Vimeux, currently Deputy Director of the Office National de Diffusion Artistique (ONDA), he has a network and international experience. It carries out an innovative project, with the dimension of the Théâtre des Amandiers, based on sharing and mutualisation, very open to the city, local cooperation, research and university, as well as on international exchanges.
The Minister wishes to commend the involvement and quality of the projects of the other candidates in the appointment process that is ending.
On 1 January 2014, Philippe Quesne will succeed Jean-Louis Martinelli, who will continue, from that date, his creative activity within an independent company.
