In agreement with the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, will propose the appointment of Mr.Stéphane Lissner as Deputy Director of the Opéra National de Paris.

Stéphane Lissner is currently Superintendent of the Scala Theatre in Milan and Music Director of the Wiener Festwochen. His career has led him to the management of many artistic institutions, in France and abroad. He was notably at the head of the Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix en Provence. The strength and maturity of its international experience, its ability to innovate and appeal to the best artists will allow the Paris Opera, with its skills, its teams and its professions, to hold the major place it deserves.

According to the statutes of the Public Institution, the Deputy Director has the task of taking, on behalf of the Opéra National de Paris, decisions on artistic programming for seasons after the end of the director’s term of office and by delegation of the director’s authority. The Deputy Director will also, in this preparatory mission, reflect on the development of the artistic and cultural education dimension of the Opera, to strengthen its openness to new audiences, the presence of works produced by the Paris Opera on the national territory. As soon as he was appointed, he and the Ministry of Culture and Communication will help to build the elements of a new cultural policy.
