Audrey Azoulay, Minister of Culture and Communication, attended tonight the inauguration of Paris Games Week, the biggest event in France for video games.

On this occasion, Audrey Azoulay announced two measures to strengthen the State’s support for the cultural dimension of video games under the Video Game Fund (FAJV), co-financed by the CNC and the Enterprise Directorate-General.

1. Creating a Writing Aid

As for cinema or series, writing has a decisive role from the conception of a video game project. This new support, aimed at young video game creators, will enhance the crucial role of their artistic contribution to the birth of a project and foster greater cultural diversity in the video game field.

2. An increase in production aid

The State will take the necessary steps vis-à-vis the European Commission in order to increase the amount of support for the production of video games, now capped at €200,000 per company under the rule de minimis.

These two measures are part of the Government’s ambitious public policy in favour of video games since 2012. €34 million was mobilized in 2016 through three mechanisms: the video game tax credit, which was extended in 2015, the FAJV and the guarantee and equity advance funds managed by the Institute for the Financing of Cinema and Cultural Industries (IFCIC).
