The leaders of the Canal+ group were received today by the office of the Minister of Culture to discuss the issue of relations with authors' societies.
Françoise Nyssen, Minister of Culture, recalls that the Canal+ group, as the leading funder of cinema and one of the main funders of audiovisual production, plays a special role in the ecosystem of French creation.
No cost-cutting strategy, even if justified by a desire to improve the financial situation, can exempt a company from the obligations arising from its contracts with authors' companies. These contracts allow the remuneration of tens of thousands of authors and creators for the distribution of their works and must necessarily be preserved.
The Minister of Culture therefore calls for a swift conclusion to the ongoing discussions between Canal + and authors' societies.
“As Minister of Culture, I put fair compensation for authors and creators at the heart of my priorities. I make it an essential battle at the national and European level, as part of the revision of the copyright directive», said Françoise Nyssen.
