As part of the presidential priority given to arts and cultural education, Vincent Peillon, Minister of National Education and Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, wished to renew the High Council for Arts and Cultural Education.

This joint initiative is part of the refocusing of the school undertaken by the Ministry of National Education as well as the major project for arts and cultural education of the Ministry of Culture and Communication. This renewal is reflected in particular by an opening of the High Council to all actors of arts and cultural education: other ministries, representatives of the different levels of local authorities, artistic and cultural actors and partner associations of the School. Emmanuel Ethis, president of the University of Avignon, becomes its vice-president.

Composed of 24 members, the High Council is a consultative and orientation body. It in particular an opinion and recommendations based on the annual reports submitted to it as well as the work and experience presented to it.

Members of the High Council for Arts and Cultural Education are appointed:

1. As representatives of the Crown:

  • the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Communication;
  • the Centre’s Regional Director of Cultural Affairs;
  • the director general of school education of the Ministry of Education; 
  • the rector of the Clermont-Ferrand Academy; 
  • the Director of Youth, Popular Education and Community Life of the Ministry of Sport, Youth, Community Education and Community Life; 
  • the Director General for Education and Research of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agri-Food and Forestry; 
  • the Director-General for Higher Education and Vocational Integration of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research; 
  • the Secretary General of the Interdepartmental Committee of Cities, representing the Ministry responsible for City Policy

  • Pierre-Alain ROIRON as holder and Jean PIRET as substitute
