Within the national and territorial institutions of higher education for performing arts (music, theatre, circus, puppetry, dance) accredited by the Ministry of Culture, research activities are increasingly being carried out in recent years. This new dynamic, which accompanies the evolution of pedagogical models, is supported by the Ministry of Culture which allocates a grant to accredited institutions carrying out such projects.

What is the REVES call for projects?

The Ministry of Culture is renewing its call for projects to support research in higher education institutions of live performance. Now entitled REVES (Research and Development in Higher Schools of Live Performance), this scheme is open to all national and territorial higher education institutions in the fields of music, theatre, circus, Puppetry, dance, accredited by the Ministry of Culture.

The integration of higher education institutions under the Ministry of Culture into the LMD (Licence, Master, Doctorate) scheme in the early 2010’s has enabled the development of new forms of research. To strengthen this dynamic by mobilizing all the institutions of these networks, the Direction générale de la création artistique has therefore decided to renew this call for projects.

Objectives

The call for projects Research and Exploitation in Higher Schools of Performing Arts (REVES) has several objectives:

  • to encourage the development of research in higher education institutions for the performing arts;
  • to make artists in training aware of the spirit, method and recent achievements of research in their field;
  • promote the development of research programmes focused on artistic practice;
  • to federate the educational community of schools around a research project.

In 2021, 11 projects were submitted by 8 higher education institutions for performing arts. Six research projects were selected, including three in the field of music, two in the field of dance and one in the field of theatre.
