Within the framework of the policy relating to the development of arts and cultural education in school led by the rectors of the three academies of Ile-de-France and the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC), optional or specialty arts courses are delivered in high schools. They are built in partnership with a cultural structure. Each year, an amendment to the agreement signed between a school and a cultural structure is sent to the DRAC. This amendment applies for a grant to the DRAC Ile-de-France for the year 2022/2023.
Presentation of the device
The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Ile-de-France (DRAC IDF) aims to integrate the development of specialty and optional artistic teachings into a policy of territorial and cultural equity, in partnership with the rectors of Paris, Créteil and Versailles.
This shared responsibility translates into the joint validation of the teaching map (dance, theatre-dramatic expression, audiovisual cinema, circus arts), the presence of a qualified cultural reference structure, the arts education project and its follow-up.
The partnership between the secondary school and the cultural structure of reference is the subject of a triennial agreement on artistic teaching, validated by the school’s board of directors. Each year, an amendment to the convention, drafted by the cultural structure and the institution, is sent to the DRAC and corresponds to a grant application.

Only the cultural structures for which there is a partnership agreement for arts education with a school in Ile-de-France are eligible.
Proceeding
Adapting to the reform of the general and technological baccalaureate requires that specialty education be reserved for the First and Final levels. The remuneration of the participating artists and professionals in this context is entirely covered by the DRAC Ile-de-France. On the other hand, the optional courses and the second pool are co-financed at parity with the rectors of Paris, Créteil and Versailles.
A flat-rate supplement of €150 is paid to cultural structures working with high schools located in a crown.
The amount of subsidy paid by the DRAC varies according to the education provided:
- For theatre, dance and circus:
- €11,232 for special education
- €2,268 for specialty-based optional education
- €1,500 for other optional courses
- €756 for the second pool (institution without optional education)
- For the cinema:
- €10,365 for specialty teaching
- €1,500 for optional education
The grant is paid at the end of the first quarter of 2023 for up-to-date paperwork structures.
Applications are automatically accepted because an agreement has already been signed between the school and the cultural structure, subject to having carried out a review of the arts education carried out in the previous school year and submitted a project for the current year.
