Presentation of the device
What is selective support for other authors of podcasts and radio creations?
This call for projects is intended for authors of podcasts and radio creations. This device aims to accompany them in the writing or rewriting of podcasts and original radio creations, requiring a particularly important creative investment, whether they are fiction, documentaries, or hybrid and innovative formats.
Objectives of the approach
This call for projects aims to:
- generate podcast and radio creation projects;
- to bring out new talents, the help not being conditioned by the fact of having already been the author of a work disseminated;
- promote diversity and editorial quality.
Am I concerned by this approach?
- Individuals (professional or not)
Any natural person, of full age, regardless of nationality, age, place of residence or professional experience, may respond to the call for projects, within the limit of one file per author or author.
Legal persons (company, association, etc...) are excluded from this call for projects.
Eligible projects are projects for the creation of podcasts or radio productions (without regard to the medium envisaged) with a high creative content: documentaries, fiction, hybrid docu-type worksfiction, or works not falling within these genres but of an innovative character.
The original recording language of the proposed projects must be French in its entirety or primarily (or a regional language in use in France).
The author of the 2021 call for proposals is not eligible in 2022.
In the case of multiple authors, all co-authors must respect this condition.
The following are not eligible:
- projects the writing of which is completed or in the finalization phase at the time of the submission of the dossier and, consequently, projects already broadcast on a radio service or made available on an online communication service to the public;
- reports, columns, microphones, news programs or magazines;
- mainly musical works;
- platform, online media or archive projects (such as podcast banks).
Proceeding
The call for projects is allocated €500,000 for 2022.
The winners receive a lump-sum grant ranging from €3,000 to €5,000 awarded after the professional commission’s opinion and paid at once following the notification letter sent to them for the selection of their project.
In the case of multiple authors, the grant is divided according to the key indicated in the application file.
Eligible projects are examined by a committee composed of representatives of professionals in the podcast and radio creation sector (authors, directors, producers, broadcasters) and qualified personalities.
The commission for the 2022 edition of the call for projects is chaired by Guillaume Gallienne, actor, screenwriter and director, member of the Comédie-Française, and vice-president by François Hurard, inspector general of cultural affairs, co-author of a podcast ecosystem report submitted to the Minister of Culture in November 2020. It also has twelve members:
- Authors and directors:
- Leila Djitli, author;
- Corinne Klomp, author
- Yves Nilly, author;
- Sabine Zovighian, director;
- Producers:
- Thomas Baumgartner, founder of podcast wave.audio studio;
- Nolwenn Thivault, founder of Narrason;
- Radio representatives:
- Erwann Gaucher, Assistant Director of Antennas and Editorial Strategy at Radio France;
- Jean-Baptiste Imbert, representative of the associative radio Radio Grenouille and the studio-workshop of Euphonia;
- Siham Mineur, coordinator of the associative radio Escapades, member of the CNRA (national confederation of associative radio stations);
- Qualified Personalities:
- Loïc Chusseau, head of the Pop'Media association;
- Anne-Claire Lainé, director of the Wavelength association;
- Thibault de Saint Maurice, co-founder of the Paris Podcast Festival.
The aid may be combined with other aids to entry existing in the sector. However, if the project already receives financial support from a broadcaster at the time of application, the grant granted may be reduced after the commission’s opinion.
Within six months of the aid being paid, the recipients must justify the use of the aid in accordance with its purpose, which is to cover the costs of writing or rewriting the audio project, by sending their final written project. In the absence of satisfaction of this condition, the laureates are required, at the request of the Minister of Culture, to repay the sums collected.
Projects are selected according to the following criteria:
- expression of a singular vision, whether it concerns the subject or the style;
- originality and quality of the author’s reflection on the subject and the lines of research she or he wishes to explore;
- adequacy of the project in relation to the intended medium(s).
The projects are also evaluated in the light of the practical arrangements for their implementation: the author’s ability to carry them out, the time needed to carry them out, the assessment of financial needs and the aid already obtained.
