On 18 April 2023, two paintings from the Paduan and Florentine schools of the 15th century were returned to the rights holders of Ernst and Agathe Saulmann, and a sculpture of the entourage of Gil de Siloé (15th century) was returned to the rights holders of Harry Fuld junior.
The 15th century Florentine school cassone panel, inventoried MNR 246, represents a Battle scene: Siege of Carthage by Scipion Émilien.
The Virgin with the Child, inventoried MNR 253, is an oil on wood of the Paduan school of the fifteenth century.
These two works « MNR » were previously entrusted to the custody of the national museums and had been deposited at the Angers Museum of Fine Arts (MNR 246) and the Picardie Museum of Amiens (MNR 253).
The Pietà of the entourage of Gil de Siloé, inventoried RFR 41, had been entrusted to the Department of Sculptures of the Louvre Museum since 1951.
The services of the Ministry of Culture and the Prime Minister responded positively to the request for restitution of rights holders of the Saulmann family. The restitution of the sculpture to the rights holders of Harry Fuld junior results from a collective work of research of provenance.
Records of the restored works are available on the Rose Valland database:
