Mission led by Mr Olivier Japiot, President, assisted by Mr Vincent Ploquin-Duchefdelaville, Rapporteur

The CSPLA welcomes the signature, on March 8, by Mrs Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, of the Charter of good practice in additive manufacturing and 3D printing applied to art ”, which was prepared under the aegis of the CSPLA.

This Charter is the result of the recommendations of the report drafted in 2016 by the CSPLA commission chaired by Mr. Olivier Japiot, State Councillor, on the issues of 3D printing for copyright (https://www.culture.gouv.fr/content/download/145363/file/CSPLA%20Impression%203D.pdf? inLanguage=en-GB)

It has a primarily educational objective with respect to three-dimensional (3D) modeling and printing companies in the artistic field, in order to raise their awareness of respect for literary and artistic property. In particular, these companies undertake to be aware of the main rules in this field and to carry out a number of checks with their customers before accepting an order in order to reduce the risk of counterfeiting or artistic forgery. In return, they benefit from a “3D – Art – Confiance” label issued by the Ministry of Culture and the support of other signatories: collective management bodies, artists' unions and professionals in the art market.

The Charter was signed by six 3D service providers, two collective management organisations, four author artist organisations, eight artist successions, as well as the European Confederation of Art Experts and the French Union of Professional Experts in Works of Art and Collectibles (see list of signatories in appendix). Other organizations will be able to sign it in the future. A follow-up committee is planned to implement this Charter.
