Restitutions, audiovisual workshops, track games, street art frescoes or theatre performances, as many activities and invitations to appropriate the wealth of the french heritage in several hundred sites (monuments, museums, archives, cities and countries of art and history, industrial heritage, archaeological sites or intangible heritage).
A social and cultural initiative to know its territory
Theoperation It’s my estate was launched with the aim of offering children and adolescents cultural activities allowing them to discover the heritage of their territory. Since 2005, it’s close to 500,000 youth throughout France, which each year has been able to benefit from this programme and participate in multidisciplinary activities relating to arts, history, urban planning and the performing arts. It’s my legacy is an opportunity for these children and adolescents to visit heritage sites while having access during their holidays to fun, manual, artistic and sports activities. It is thus an event at the crossroads of education and entertainment as schools close their doors for the summer period.
All over France recreation centres, social centres, youth and cultural centres and other reception facilities become places of culture adapted to the youth of urban and rural districts called "priority politics". The priority audience being the families living in the beneficiary neighbourhoods of the policy "Dynamic Hope Suburbs".
Each year, more than 200 sites make the operation live by collaborating with institutions, inhabitants, educators and artists. After 15 years of existence, theoperation It’s my estate (formerly "The gates of time") has become a key moment in the cultural and social policies of cities. It is in particular a real vector of exchanges and discoveries for the youth of the territories.
Plurality of heritage and cultural practices
The main force of the operation “This is my heritage” is the range of opportunities available to its participants in terms of both heritage types and cultural practices.
Plurality of heritage with activities organized in abbeys, archaeological sites, museums, mediatheques, but also castles and other contemporary constructions.
Cultural plurality thanks to proposals around street art, painting, music, photography and many others.
During the last edition of It’s my legacy to Toulouse in the Soupetard - Amouroux neighbourhoods, young people aged 8 to 16 could create their own Fanzine with their environment as a theme. A Caen it was a drawing workshop in the garden of the Abbey of Ardenne led by illustrator Hélène Balcer for the youth of the MJC du Chemin-Vert. The previous year at the Mans, in 2019, at the Tessé Museum, teenagers from the Collège des Sources, Vauguyon, Berthelot and the Lycée Claude-Chappe d'Arnage played a costumed play in Osiris, Nefertiti and Imhotep, retracing Egyptian mythology through the stage.
National, regional and departmental employers for young people but also for education professionals
At national level, It’s my legacy is a device driven by the ministry of culture, and the General Commission for Equality of the Territories (CGET).
At regional level, it is nevertheless managed by the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC) and the regional and departmental management of youth, sports and social cohesion (DRDJSCS), in collaboration with the departmental directorates for social cohesion and population protection (DDCS/PP).
Popular education federations are involved in the system, at the national (coordination and communication), regional, and even local level. The scheme is also based on national or local partnerships with the Centre for National Monuments (CMN) and various institutions in all fields of heritage.
At all levels of the State, it is a joint implementation that allows our young fellow citizens to discover their heritage with a new eye and to appropriate it through fun and educational activities. It is also an opportunity for facilitators and actors of popular education to exchange and train themselves with mediators of heritage institutions to continue throughout the year this interprofessional dialogue, deepening work habits for the benefit of youth.
