Tribute by Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, to Gérard Rinaldi

Gérard Rinaldi left us this morning. He was 69 years old.

For a whole generation, his name will obviously remain linked to the
Charlots, that group of which he was in some way the soul and which made blow
a breath of fresh air in the world of comedy. In movies like
in the song, their sense of parody, their good-natured humour, their
never mean humor had earned them an extraordinary
popularity.

Before the Charlots, there were the Problèmes, a group he founded to
accompany Antoine, one of the great stars of the variety
1960s French.

And after the Charlots, Gérard Rinaldi won the theatre and the
by revealing to new audiences other facets of its
talent. For the new generation, Gérard Rinaldi, it was not a
«tramp», not even an old Tramp, but rather the hero of a series
very popular who owed him a lot: «Marc and Sophie».

This actor of great talent also had the ability to change
register to go further and further.
