I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Henri Ronse, a magnificent artist of both cultures, Belgian and French, with many faces.

He was one of those complete beings capable of inhabiting very different cultural imaginations, as comfortable with the classics as with his contemporaries, with the beautiful as with the useful. What did he not accomplish between 1960 and 1980, between Paris and Brussels, on the cultural scene! Whether in theatre and opera as a director of an incredible prolixity, as a man of radio, or as a publisher of poetry. He was a builder, a man of utopias but also of the field, who had at heart to give solid foundations to culture, such as the Oblique theatre in Paris, or the Caravane des Poètes in the Centre region. His deeply poetic and committed work will survive him.
