The Ministry of Culture and Communication announces the acquisition by the interdepartmental service of the Archives de France (Directorate Generales Patrimoines), for the National Archives, of an autograph manuscript by Maximilien Robespierre, entitled Finances.
This unpublished manuscript was written by Maximilien Robespierre in the last days
of the Constituent Assembly around 1791. Among other things, it is devoted to the country’s finances
and the means of redressing them, the assignats, the sale of clergy goods,
Necker’s speech and the opening of the Estates General. He denounces
also the financial policy adopted that leads to the ruin of the country and to
increasing inequality.
This is an essential piece for understanding this period
history of France. This purchase illustrates the enrichment policy
public collections implemented by the Department.
