The Minister of Culture and Communication took note with emotion of the arrest of Ai Weiwei and joined with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the hope that his release into freedom would take place as soon as possible.

Internationally recognized, Ai Weiwei contributed to the realization of the
Beijing Olympic National Stadium, "the bird’s nest", directed by Herzog
and Meuron. He is currently exhibiting a work composed of millions
Porcelain sunflower seeds at the Tate Modern in London
which questions precisely the place and respect accorded to the individual
in the contemporary world.
Ai Weiwei was already under house arrest after the destruction of
his workshop. His work both ironic and humorous, serving
a sincere commitment to human rights, falls under
the essential freedom of expression of artists to which the Minister of
Culture and Communication can only testify its greatest
attachment.
