Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, expressed the utmost indignation at the arrests of the seven film personalities perpetrated by the Iranian government.
In fact, it is an unconscionable attack on the rights of creators and freedom of expression and an extremely disturbing measure that goes far beyond an unjustifiable deprivation of freedom.
The Minister calls on the Iranian authorities to put an end to this situation and urgently release Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, Nasser Saffarian, Hadi Afarideh, Shahnam Bazdar, Mehrdad Zahedian, Mohsen Shahnazdar and Katayoune Shahabin.
While France and the world of cinema in general are working to promote the works of Iranian artists and creators, such attacks on the very essence of artistic creation cast a veil of disgust and horror over the behaviour of Iranian cultural policy.
