Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, welcomes the signing of an agreement on the media timeline
The agreement for the reorganization of the media timeline, signed today by the film organizations (exhibitors, distributors, producers) the pay and free television channels (France-télévisions, TF1, Arte, Canal + and M6) and video on demand publishers (the union of
publishers of VAD, Orange and SFR), modernizes the rules for the exploitation of films in order to adapt them to new modes of distribution, while at the same time sustaining the mechanisms for financing creation
It promotes the development of the legal offer, in the spirit of the law «Creation and Internet», by providing that the works are available on video on demand four months after their release in theatres (against 7 months and a half so far). It shortens the time taken to broadcast films on television channels by consolidating the latter’s essential contribution to film financing. Finally, it stresses the need to monitor with vigilance the impact of the chronology on the evolution of the situation of film exploitation.
The Minister welcomes the spirit of responsibility of the signatories of this agreement after a complex negotiation conducted under the auspices of the National Film Centre. Frédéric Mitterrand will take as soon as possible a decree extending this agreement.
