Reaction of Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication to the condemnation of the filmmaker Jafar Panahi.

Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, has learned with dismay of the probable sentence on appeal of the filmmaker Jafar Panahi to six years in prison and twenty years of prohibition of making films or screenplays, travel abroad or give interviews.

The Minister rebels against this judgment which would confirm once again the incessant attacks of the Iranian authorities on fundamental rights and freedoms. He calls for the great Iranian filmmaker to be definitively freed and to be able to produce his films once again, which underline the urgent need to give Iranian culture a creative freedom worthy of its heritage.
