Appointment of Didier Deschamps as Director of the Théâtre national de Chaillot

Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication,
announced that the management of the Théâtre national de Chaillot will be entrusted to
from next July to Didier Deschamps. He will succeed Dominique
Hervieu, called to lead the Maison de la danse and the Biennale de la
dance in Lyon.
This decision confirms the artistic orientation given to this theatre
2007: the multidisciplinary project of Chaillot is organized around
a major choreographic axis, while continuing to wear a
particular attention to the theatrical repertoire that made the history of Chaillot.
Didier Deschamps is from Lyon. He is 55 years old. Dancer of
contemporary formation, it is located in the double filiation of Merce
Cunningham and Viola Farber. His artistic background made him a
high-level educator, who notably set up the
National Conservatory of Music and Dance
Lyon.
His path has been marked by significant milestones in the administration,
where he successively served as inspector general and
dance delegate.
Today, Didier Deschamps heads the Centre chorégraphique national/
Ballet from Lorraine to Nancy: in ten years, he knew how to make this formation
one of the most beautiful troupes of French dance today, by
the excellence of its dancers, the diversity of its repertoire, the
international of its activity.
Didier Deschamps will take office in July 2011.
direction will continue all missions given to the Theatre
of Chaillot, and more particularly the search for
close collaboration with the National Dance Centre to
constitute a national choreographic centre of reference.
