Created in 1989 and launched online in 2002, Palissy is a database of French furniture heritage from prehistory to the present day (outside the collections of museums in France). As of October 2020, it has over 515,000 records.
Palissy includes three fields that can be queried separately, by filter producer, or simultaneously:
- The Historical Monuments (MH) domain, fed by the MAP, makes available records of movable objects classified or listed under the Historical Monuments (notices in PM), as well as movable objects of cathedrals properties of the State. Palissy-MH constitutes the list of historical monuments provided for by the Heritage Code (regulatory scope): the notices provide the regulatory information on the level and extent of protection under the Historical Monuments. The records of the Historical Monuments are written according to the files and the protection orders, which can be consulted in their entirety in the reading room of the MAP, in Charenton-le-Pont, in DRAC or with the CAOA of each department.
- The General Inventory (IVR) domain offers material safety data sheets (IM records) of inventory files made by the regional departments of the general inventory of cultural heritage.
- The ETAT domain, supplied by the MAP, indicates the movable inventories kept in the monuments managed by the Centre of National Monuments (CMN).
Since the base is enriched by several producers, the same movable object can be listed in two different records, if it has been listed by the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage (IM records) and if it has Historical Monuments protection (PM records).
The Palissy database is regularly updated and accessible on POP, the open heritage platform, and Collections.
