The history of the museum, of its building, is unusual. Located in the heart of Paris, along the Seine River, opposite the Tuileries Garden, the museum took place in the former Orsay train station, a building built for the 1900 World Fair. Thus the building is, in a way, the first "work" of the collections of the Musée d'Orsay which presents the art of the few decades that elapsed between 1848 and 1914.
