Built during the youth of Louis XIV on a vast domain between the forest of Saint-Germain and the Seine, the castle of Maisons testifies to a true architectural renewal. It embodies both the birth of the modern castle and the proclamation of French classicism. The best preserved masterpiece of the famous architect François Mansart, it prefigures Vaux-le-Vicomte and Versailles.
