Objectives
Following the New Africa-France Summit in Montpellier, France is working to promote the circulation of works and exhibitions in Africa. In this perspective, in 2022, the Ministry of Culture organized a first edition of the seminar on the organization of temporary exhibitions and the circulation of cultural goods in Africa, for the attention of 15 francophone African professionals.
This second edition, held in autumn 2023, is aimed at English-speaking African professionals, with the same objective of contributing to their networking (among themselves and with French museums), to the identification of exhibition projects, and to strengthen their skills in the organization of temporary exhibitions and the hosting of works in African museums.
This seminar will allow participants to learn or rediscover the fundamentals of the design and organization of temporary exhibitions, both in the field of heritage and contemporary art, taking into account the African context, with alternating theoretical presentations, feedback, case studies and visits to exhibitions and French museums. It will bring together in Paris and in the region about fifteen experienced English-speaking professionals from African museums with the project of designing and organizing temporary exhibitions. It will encourage participants to compare their experiences and facilitate the development of professional networks between France and the countries of the participants and between the participants themselves in order to promote the roaming of future exhibitions.
Public concerned
This seminar is primarily aimed at anglophone professionals working in African museums (museum managers, art centres, galleries, curators, curators, project managers, exhibition managers) having the project to design and organize temporary exhibitions requiring requests for loans of works in France or abroad.
