What is the principle behind this call for applications?
Driven by the desire to question a territory and its changes, the municipality of Calais wishes to be accompanied by an artist or a collective to reveal and accompany the changes in the neighbourhood, ongoing and upcoming, with its population.
This mission residence applies to a specific territory: Fort Nieulay west of the city, and will soon benefit from a urban renewal. It will, however, be used throughout the municipality of Calais for a population of more than 70,000 inhabitants. A work by artist François Morellet «Blériot en dentelle» is inscribed on the pavement of the public space, at the feet of buildings.
It is therefore sought, in view of this residence-mission, artists or collectives of artists sensitive to visual arts, architecture, urban planning, and living and urban arts, having a strong sensitivity to living environment and a knowledge of the work of François Morellet.
The period of residence is early April 2023 to late September 2023.

The context
This call for applications is part of the actions of the City of Art and History (VPAH) pole, the city of Calais being labeled territory since 2019. This label describes territories that are committed to an active approach of knowledge, preservation, mediation and support for the architectural quality and living environment. The will is to sensitize the inhabitants on these issues and to lead them to consider themselves as actors of their environment.
