On 22 January 2024, Rachida DATI, Minister of Culture, launched the “Printemps de la ruralité”, a national consultation on cultural life in rural areas: “ Today, 22 million French people live in rural areas. This is one third of our population, 88% of our municipalities. While many initiatives bring a cultural offering to life in these territories, our cultural model seems to have missed this major reality of our country. I wish it would change, and I give us two months for that.”
Round tables to share experiences
In the morning, elected officials and cultural services managers from rural communities exchanged during two round tables, around two themes: «cultural offer, a lever of territorial development in rurality» and “cross-initiatives for culture in rural areas”.
Workshops on three themes
In the afternoon, representatives of local authorities, cultural venue managers, companies and artists, as well as popular education associations participated in workshops on different themes:
- Workshop 1: Access to cultural offerings in rural areas: how to promote the influence and promotion of cultural offerings in the territories?
- Workshop 2: Cultural practices and participatory dynamics: how to involve inhabitants, meet their expectations and accompany them in discovery?
- Workshop 3: Support for cultural projects in rural areas: how to support actors in rural areas
