Saints Joachim and Anne are the names of the parents of the Virgin Mary and come to us through the early books of Christian legend. Their story was made famous in Europe by the Dominican Jacobus de Voragine (1298) in his Golden Legend. This contemporary icon, painted in the Novgorodian style, shows the gift of love between the parents of the Virgin Mary. It is the traditional marriage icon for Orthodox Christian.
